Dans la plupart des cas, ces contes ont été recueillis de vive voix, par des interviews réalisées auprès de vieux et de vieilles de nos îles. Quant aux poèmes, ils sont de deux genres certains sont à base strictement culturelle ("Dans le bon vieux temps ", " La vieille dame "), d'autres portent à la réflexion ou sont le reflet d'un état d'âme (" Voyageur ", " L'insecte et la fleur ", " Que m'importe "). Ces écrits essaient en quelque sorte de faire émerger les Seychellois d'un passé où ils n'étaient que des simples spectateurs.
